No. 21 Hawaii swept by CSUN in volleyball
Danetta Boykin put down 14 kills and Cieara Stinson added 12 as Cal State Northridge upset No. 21 Hawaii 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 in a Big West volleyball match Friday in Northridge, Calif.
Casey Hinger added 10 kills for the Matadors (12-4, 3-1 Big West) playing their first home match after 15 on the road. It was the second consecutive win over the Rainbow Wahine (12-4, 4-1) in the Matadome; last season CSUN pulled out a five-set victory, the first time the Matadors had defeated Hawaii.
Nikki Taylor and Kalei Greeley both had eight kills for the Wahine, who next travel to play Long Beach State (13-4, 3-0) Saturday. Kalei Adolpho was in on seven of the team’s 10 blocks.
It was the first time since 2010 that Hawaii had been swept by a conference opponent. Utah State defeated the Wahine in straight sets in the 2010 WAC tournament final.
Hawaii had won seven straight before Friday’s match as well as 21 consecutive sets.
