2 hikers killed in falls are identified
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two hikers who died after falls on Oahu over the weekend.
The 70-year-old hiker who died Sunday after falling off a trail above Mariners Ridge was identified as Paul E. Yoon.
The Medical Examiner’s Office also identified the 23-year-old Kapolei woman who fell 300 feet while hiking near Kaaawa on Saturday as Elizabeth Tarpay.
Tarpay died after falling from the Puu Manamana hiking trail above Kaaawa on Saturday morning.
Yoon of Honolulu died from cranial/cervical spine injuries due to an accidental fall from a height, the Medical Examiner’s Office said. Paramedics said he fell 20 to 30 feet. A fire spokesman said Yoon was with a local hiking club.
Fires deal $460,000 in damage to 2 homes
The Honolulu Fire Department has estimated damage for a pair of fires that destroyed residences in Pearl City and Kaimuki over the weekend.
The Pearl City fire, which was caused by an unattended candle, consumed a two-story house on Lehua Avenue on Saturday evening. Damage has been estimated at $200,000 to the structure and $20,000 to its contents, according to HFD spokesman Capt. Gary Lum.
Fire also gutted a residence on Kaimuki Avenue on Sunday afternoon. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

7 rescued after escape from feral pigs
Honolulu fire rescue personnel escorted seven hikers off the Kaau Crater trail in Palolo Valley on Monday after the hikers got lost while escaping feral pigs.
The hikers, ranging in age from 15 to 30, were hiking toward a waterfall when they encountered the pigs. They called for assistance at about 4:30 p.m. Firefighters had difficulty locating the hikers but eventually determined their location and hiked in to assist them. The party safely exited the trail at about 7 p.m. None of the hikers was injured.
Woman found dead had meth in system
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said a 35-year-old Honolulu woman whose body was found just after 7 a.m. April 9 in Kewalo Basin had methamphetamine in her system.
Jennifer M.H. Kim died of accidental drowning, the medical examiner’s office said, citing methamphetamine toxicity as a significant condition. Surfers turned over her body to fire rescue personnel after finding it near the former site of the University of Hawaii’s dolphin research facility.
Blaze damages house in Kihei
Fire caused about $600,000 damage Sunday to a multifamily house in Kihei, Maui.
When firefighters arrived, flames could been seen at the back of the structure at 204 Humupea Place.
The fire was reported at 1:42 p.m. and put out at 5:57 p.m.
The cause was under investigation, but officials said indications are that the fire’s origin was accidental.
Damage was $450,000 to the house and $150,000 to its contents, officials said.
Hiker rescued from Kokee trail
Kauai County rescue crews flew an injured hiker from a trail in Kokee State Park on Sunday afternoon.
The hiker, who had injured her ankle, was found about 1.5 miles from the Nualolo trail head about 12:26 p.m. and flown aboard the county’s Fire Department helicopter to Waimea Canyon Park. She was taken to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.
