Julia Lee Mullock, Korea’s last princess, turned 92 this year. She was married to the last crown prince, Yi Gu, who died in July 2005 in Japan. The couple married in 1958, adopted a girl in 1969 and divorced in 1982. I met with Julia after many years without contact. In 2006 she was busy working on a film that was supposed to portray her life. To this day the film has not been produced, and Julia doesn’t know why. Originally LJ Films and Focus Features planned to release the movie in 2008.
Julia, who is in Hawaii, is not in the best of health and suffers with no family around. She can no longer paint, which was one of her favorite hobbies. Julia has given me several errands, including tracking down her good friend Lee Seung Jae, CEO of LJ Films, which will keep me busy.
