The Rev. Jack Bomar, a native of Tennessee and founder of Blessing Hands USA Inc., is the new senior minister at Unity Church of Hawaii.
In December, Bomar presided over his first service at the New Thought church, 3608 Diamond Head Circle. He is replacing the late Rev. Sky St. John, who died in late 2013.
Prior to relocating to Hawaii, Bomar served as pastor at United Church of Jesus Christ For All People in Beaufort, S.C., and the United Palace Cathedral in New York, according to a news release.
Bomar’s Blessing Hands USA is a nonprofit humanitarian organization established to revive, restructure and revitalize communities. For the past few years the minister has provided pastoral and mission support to communities in the Dominican Republic; Haiti; Australia; Ghana; Iloilo, Philippines; St. Lucia, West Indies; and Bangalore, India. He has led delegations of multidenominational faith leaders, chiropractors and community volunteers on trips to Hermanas Mirabal province, Dominican Republic, and Haiti to provide medical aid, food and beds to various communities, a release said.
Bomar has studied at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary; a bachelor’s degree from Lane College in Jackson, Tenn.; ministerial ordination from the Barbara King School of Ministry in Atlanta; and ecclesiastical ministerial endorsement from the United Church of Religious Science.
The minister has also served as producer, director and host of “Power Hour,” a live interactive radio program that promotes traditional gospel and contemporary music with a mixture of the spoken word, stressing “spiritual principles.” In addition, he is a founding member of the We Love Memphis Movement, a consortium of ministries, churches and organizations that aim to build a wholesome climate of caring, safety and respect in the Memphis metropolitan area.
