Hilo man charged in alleged machete attack
Hawaii County police have charged a Hilo man with attempted murder for allegedly striking a 21-year-old man in the neck with a machete on Saturday.
According to police, the victim was attempting to break up a fight between a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy when suspect, Atkinson Nakashima, 21, attacked him.
Nakashima was arrested at the scene.
On Sunday, detectives charged Nakashima with attempted second-degree murder. Nakashima is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
