Hotel will unveil Lincoln portraits
WASHINGTON » Two new portraits of President Abraham Lincoln and his family are being unveiled at a Washington hotel ahead of the 150th anniversary next year of Lincoln’s assassination.
The Willard InterContinental Hotel plans to unveil the two new portraits by artist John Gable on Tuesday. One depicts Mary Lincoln and eldest son Robert Lincoln. The other portrait features President Lincoln and sons Willie and Tad.
The paintings will remain on permanent display at the hotel near the White House.
The hotel is starting a partnership with Ford’s Theatre and the Newseum to mark the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s death. They’re holding a contest to give away a weekend getaway in a room where Lincoln stayed. The Newseum is planning a 2015 exhibit chronicling Lincoln’s death and the hunt for his assassin.

WASHINGTON » Taylor Swift is getting double the love from Madame Tussauds wax museum with her figure being unveiled in both Washington and Hollywood.
On Tuesday the museum will add its new wax statue of the 24-year-old singer to its attraction in downtown Washington. Madame Tussauds Hollywood unveiled its new Swift figure Monday.
In Washington, Swift will join figures of President Barack Obama, Beyonce and Katy Perry.
Madame Tussauds said Swift has been a popular fixture in the museum’s New York location.
Yellowstone sets seasonal closings
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. » Visitors to Yellowstone National Park have just one more day before roads will close to vehicle traffic for the season.
The National Park Service announced that roads will close to vehicle traffic to most of the popular locations in the interior of Yellowstone at 8 a.m. Monday.
The exception is the road from the park’s North Entrance at Gardiner, Mont., through Mammoth Hot Springs to the park’s Northeast Entrance and the communities of Cooke City and Silver Gate, Mont. That road remains open all year, weather permitting.
All other park roads close for the season to allow staff members to begin preparing the roads for guided snowmobile and snow coach travel beginning Dec. 15.
