Warn your keiki about strangers
Nowadays, you can’t be too careful when it comes to "stranger danger" involving school kids.
Honolulu police are looking into three separate reports involving approaches to students by strangers.
At this point, the first reported incident — after school on Sept. 18 — provides the most detailed, worrisome account. Keoneula Elementary students say a white van drove up to them, and a man in the passenger seat tried to lure them in.
The second report, on Sept. 19, involved a Waipahu Elementary student being approached by a man in a black car; the third, on Monday, involved a Holomua Elementary student being approached as she walked home in Ewa.
School notices were sent home immediately in each case, with tips for staying safe.
Some hypervigilance might or might not be in play here — but erring on the side of caution can’t be downplayed when it comes to safeguarding our keiki.
