Obama says he hopes Chicago gets library
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that President Barack Obama is saying he hopes his presidential library goes to Chicago.
Obama made the statement during a conversation at the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington on Saturday, the newspaper said, but the president added that there are "some entanglements" holding it up.
The Chicago City Council is expected to vote Wednesday on a controversial proposal to transfer about 20 acres of public park land on the South Side to the city’s control if the University of Chicago is awarded the library.
The University of Chicago has been rumored to be the front-runner to host the library. Also competing are the University of Hawaii, Columbia University and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
An announcement on the site is expected after Chicago’s April 7 mayoral runoff election.
