A wrecking crew pulled up a heavily damaged truck that plunged down a steep H-1 freeway embankment after hitting another

The medical examiner identified the 64-year-old woman who was killed Oct. 1 when her truck went over an H-1 freeway guardrail in Aiea, as Beverly Ledesma, of Waipahu.

The cause of death was blunt force injuries, the medical examiner said.

Police said Ledesma was driving a Dodge pickup truck town-bound in the right-hand lane, when the truck changed lanes and hit the front bumper of another vehicle. Ledesma’s truck veered off the roadway, went over the metal guardrail, rolled down an embankment about 60 to 80 feet below the freeway, police said.

The accident occurred at 8:20 a.m., about a quarter mile east of the Kaahumanu Street overpass.

The impact of the crash caused the second vehicle to swerve right into the metal guardrail, then to the left, colliding into at least two more vehicles. The other drivers involved in the crash were not injured, police said.

Police closed two lanes of the freeway for several hours while they investigated the crash.
