Chen, Wentworth earn weekly honors
BYU-Hawaii senior outside hitter Shih Ting Chen was named Player of the Week after recording 64 kills, 41 digs, four blocks and four service aces. Chen, the three-time PacWest Player of the Year, logged a career-high 30 kills and 19 digs in a comeback five-set victory at Fresno Pacific. Chen followed that performance with 17 kills apiece against Dominican and Notre Dame de Namur. She leads the PacWest in kills per set (5.02).
Hawaii Pacific freshman setter Tenika Wentworth earned Freshman of the Week after recording 102 assists and 36 digs.
Seasiders stand pat in Division II poll
The BYU-Hawaii women’s volleyball team, winners of seven in a row, remained at No. 4 in the latest AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll released Monday.
Tampa received all 48 first-place votes and is ranked No. 1. Minnesota-Duluth and Concordia-St. Paul are 2-3 ahead of BYUH.

Pineda, Palacios earn honors
Notre Dame de Namur junior midfielder Jack Ewert, BYU-Hawaii senior keeper Chris Pineda and Hawaii Pacific freshman keeper Eduardo Palacios received PacWest Conference honors.
Ewert, a Pacific Buddhist Academy product, was named Player of the Week after fueling the NDNU offense in a pair of conference wins. He scored three goals in the two games, boosting his team-best season total to four.
Pineda made 10 saves in a 5-0 win over Dixie State, his second consecutive shutout. Pineda has not allowed a goal in the past 195:34, helping BYU-Hawaii win three consecutive games.
Palacios earned his second career shutout against preseason PacWest favorite Azusa Pacific in a 1-0 victory.
Late goals stymie ‘Swords in OT loss
For the second time in three days, a pair of late goals beat the Chaminade men’s soccer squad.
Dixie State stunned the Silverswords on Monday on Saint Louis Field with a 2-1 overtime win as Frank Mallek scored on a chip shot over the head of charging Chaminade keeper Bern Buescherhoff just 24 seconds into the extra period.
The Red Storm (1-5-1, 1-2) sent the game into overtime with only 40 seconds remaining in regulation as Bryan Baugh’s throw-in from the right sideline found Jorge Echevarria, who headed in the tying score.
Chaminade (3-6, 2-3) scored the first goal in the 76th minute as Luka Pousett’s shot deflected off Red Storm goalkeeper Hayden Matthew and headed toward the right sideline in the area of Dayton Sato, who tapped the ball in unchallenged. It was the senior’s first goal of the season.

Boswell earns weekly honor
Hawaii Pacific junior keeper Kelby Boswell was named the PacWest women’s soccer Defender of the Week after making seven saves in a 3-1 victory over Azusa Pacific. Boswell has 16 saves and two goals allowed. She is fourth in the conference in goals-against average (1.095) and saves (35).
Chaminade can’t weather Red Storm
The Chaminade women’s soccer team dropped its third straight decision Monday in a 4-0 setback against Dixie State.
Amid humid and hazy conditions at Saint Louis Field, the Red Storm got a hat trick from Jennifer Mason to improve to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference. The Silverswords fell to 2-6 and 2-3.
