Adjusting to the new reality of living after the loss of a loved one will be the focus of a workshop sponsored by the Bereavement Support Group from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Harris United Methodist Church.
Participants will learn grief-coping skills from speakers such as Felicia Marquez-Wong of St. Francis Hospice and J.P. Sabithi of Hospice Hawaii. Other presenters include Katie Fisher, an acupuncturist and yoga teacher, and Xu Di, a "spiritual light practitioner."
Workshop organizer Sandy Pohl said the event grew out of the Bereavement Support Group’s regular monthly meetings, where members share experiences and ways to cope with loss.
"For over 10 years our group has gathered and supported each other," she said. "We know there is no right or wrong way to grieve, but we share healthy ways to cope with the pain."
The support group meets on the second Sunday monthly from 1 to 3 p.m. at Kaiser’s Moanalua Medical Center.
The $20 fee for Saturday’s workshop covers lunch and one-on-one sessions following morning presentations. Harris UMC is at 20 S. Vineyard Blvd.
Sponsors include Hawaii Donor Family Council, Hospice Hawaii, St. Francis Hospice, Hawaii Lions Eye Bank, Makana Foundation, Legacy of Life Hawaii, Harris UMC & Society and the National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii.
