Sometimes if you want something done …
A group of high schoolers is charging ahead where, it seems, some of their elders fear to tread.
That is, they’ve stepped up with a project to air condition the hottest classroom at Campbell High School. So far, most of the schools needing AC are still waiting for relief through official channels.
The group is dubbed Fahrenheit73 (the preferred temperature, almost 20-plus degrees below what the thermometer shows in classroom P-1).
And the vehicle to make this happen is the crowdfunding site Islandfunder, where $19,000 is being raised to install a hybrid solar-powered AC system for the room.
How cool is that? Here’s where to find the campaign — and contribute: www.islandfunder.com/campaigns/fahrenheit73.
HART board members on track for their close-ups
Scintillating television? Maybe not. An important advancement in government transparency that protects the public interest? Absolutely.
Starting this week, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation’s board meetings will be broadcast live on ‘Olelo Channel 55, replayed at least three times and then be archived on the ‘Olelo Community Media website. Such careful documentation is sure to increase scrutiny of Oahu’s rail-transit project in an era of rising costs, and creates an accessible record of the HART board’s promises and actions.
