Stalled garbage truck ties up morning commute

The Zipper lane remained open Thursday morning to help alleviate the traffic caused by a stalled garbage truck on the freeway in Aiea.

A stalled garbage truck that remained on the H-1 freeway for hours backed up traffic coming into town during the morning commute Thursday.

The state Department of Transportation kept the Zipper lane open until 10 a.m. and allowed access to vehicles to alleviate the traffic back-log coming into town.

A stalled garbage truck near the Kaonohi overpass backed up town-bound traffic on the freeway until after it was removed.

Traffic was still backed up at 9 a.m.
