Castle High hosts native artist Enos
Native Hawaiian artist Solomon Enos will serve as an artist in residence at Castle High School in Kaneohe this year.
As part of the state’s Art in Public Places — Artists in Residence Program, he will work with students, teachers, parents and the larger community to create a work of art for the school. The project is budgeted for $100,000, which will be given in phases over a two-year period.
The program, run by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts in partnership with the Department of Education, commissions works of original art for permanent installation at public schools.
Enos, a prolific artist best known for his painting "Kamapua‘a," depicting the Hawaiian pig-god, will offer a free workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the school cafeteria to get to know school and community members.
His art project, which will include an educational component to be integrated into the school’s curriculum, might be a sculpture or wall mural.
Light refreshments will be provided.
Those planning to attend should email Kathy_Martin@ notes.k12. hi.us or call 233-5600, ext. 2236, with the number of people attending and a contact number or email address.
