Hawaiian Air passenger traffic up 7% in March

Hawaiian Airlines saw its earnings double in the second quarter from the year-ago period. The carrier also plans to order six new Airbus model A330-800neo jets

Hawaiian Airlines’ passenger traffic rose 7 percent in March from the year-earlier period as it filled more of its seats.

The state’s largest carrier said Monday it transported 887,346 compared with 829,584 in March 2014. Hawaiian’s load factor, or the percentage of seats filled, rose 2.7 percentage points to 81.2 percent from 78.5 percent.

Revenue passenger miles, or one paying passenger transported one mile, increased 7.9 percent to 1.17 million from 1.09 million while available seat miles, or one seat transported one mile, rose 4.3 percent to 1.44 million from 1.38 million.
