BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. >> Bullhead City officials completed the installation this week of a memorial honoring the USS Arizona, the battleship that sank after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The Mohave Valley Daily News reports that the 7-foot long, 3-foot tall granite sign now stands at the city’s Arizona Veterans Memorial Park.

The 1,600 pound sign was donated by retired Navy Cmdr. Jack Norris, who discovered it in a salvage yard in Hawaii last year.

The USS Arizona is considered one of the nation’s most hallowed sites.

It has become an underwater grave for more than 900 sailors and Marines who were killed in the 1941 bombing by Japan.

The National Park Service and the U.S. Navy refurbished the memorial site at Pearl Harbor, including getting a new granite sign.
