Yada tied for 36th at LPGA Stage II
Waiakea graduate Britney Yada shot a 1-over 73 for a 217 total and is tied for 36th in the Stage II LPGA Qualifying Tournament in Venice, Fla., on Thursday.
Punahou alumnae Stephanie Kono, who played on the LPGA tour in 2012 and the Symetra the past two years, shot her third consecutive 73 and is tied for 55th at 219. Moanalua alumnae Kristina Merkle shot 5-over 77 and is at 234 and tied for 180th. The leaders are at 208.
The tournament ends Friday with the top 80 reaching the final stage, Dec. 3-7 in Florida. Golfers who finish in the top 20 there earn priority status on the 2015 LPGA tour.
Havens ahead in Aloha Section Stroke Play
Kaanapali pro David Havens shot a 4-under-par 68 to take a one-stroke lead over Garrett Okamura at the Aloha Section Stroke Play Championship at Poipu Bay on Thursday.
Waialae Country Club’s Kevin Carll is in third at 2-under.
The winner of the event will earn a spot in the 2015 Sony Open at Waialae in January and represent the Aloha Section at the 48th PGA Professional National Championship next June 21-24 at The Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Silverswords, Vulcans win road matches
Chaminade rallied from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Notre Dame de Namur 22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-12 in a PacWest Conference women’s volleyball match Thursday at Belmont, Calif.
Cassie Rushlow and Reigna Johnson set career highs in kills with 16 and 15, respectively, to lead the Silverswords, who equaled last season’s win total and improved to 9-6 overall, 2-2 in the PacWest.

Marley Strand-Nicolaisen led the Vulcans (4-5 overall) with 13 kills, while Kyndra Trevino-Scott contributed 12 kills, two aces and three blocks.
