A 5.88-pound Keitt mango, “the size of a small watermelon,” was harvested Oct. 7 at I‘O Kea Mango in Kona, says farmer Susie Weaver. Keitts are usually under 2 pounds and have layers of rich flavor, she says.

Dinner supports farms
Support a secure future for farming at the Hawai’i Farmers Union United annual benefit dinner, featuring Lee Anne Wong, Ed Kenney and Mark Noguchi of the Hawaii Chef Action Network.
The event, 6:30 p.m. Monday at Koko Head Cafe, will feature locavore food and specialty cocktails.
Proceeds will support an upcoming convention and projects for the legislative session.

Dumplings on display
Learn to make dumplings from an expert when chef Lee Anne Wong, author of the new cookbook "Dumplings All Day Wong," gives a lesson Saturday at Cookspace in Ward Warehouse.
Wong, chef at Koko Head Cafe, will demonstrate various fillings from the book, and students will try their hands at classic folds.

Trio honored at dinner
Former Supreme Court Justice Mario Ramil, philanthropist Maria A.F. Etrata and retired Supreme Court Justice and educator Simeon Acoba Jr. will be honored at the 12th Annual Bayanihan Gala Dinner, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Sheraton Waikiki.
A silent auction will feature a variety of gift certificates, hotel stays, Hawaiian music CDs and other products.
