Man accused of driving at officer charged
Hawaii island police Monday charged a man whose alleged actions resulted in an officer-involved shooting in Puna on Friday.
Daesyn Pacheco-Muragin, 24, of Mountain View was charged with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, one count of second-degree reckless endangering, three counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, two counts of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and a weapon offense. His bail was set at $102,000.
According to police, a Puna patrol officer drove toward a suspicious car at the end of Mokuna Street in the Royal Hawaiian Estates subdivision at about 1 p.m. Friday. The car drove directly toward the officer’s vehicle, swerving at the last moment before fleeing.
The car continued north into oncoming traffic in the southbound lane of Highway 11 in the Mountain View area, where it proceeded through a road construction site and directly toward an officer who was directing traffic, police said. The officer fired three shots, striking the car as it was driven away toward Hilo.
Vehicle strikes and injures boy, age 4
A 4-year-old boy was in serious condition after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday in Waianae.
Emergency Medical Services personnel reported the incident occurred at 87-825 Farrington Highway at 10:42 a.m.
The boy was transported to a hospital.
No further information was available.
Moped crash lands man, 56, in hospital
A man was injured after losing control of his moped Tuesday morning at Campbell Avenue and Castle Street in the Kapahulu area.
The accident occurred at about 10:45 a.m., and the victim, 56, was taken to the emergency room in serious condition, according to Emergency Medical Services personnel.
