Suspect arrested in backpack theft
A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday after he grabbed a tourist’s backpack from her chair in Waikele, police said.
The man took the 32-year-old woman’s bag off the back of the chair she was sitting in at about 4 p.m., police said.
Witnesses chased the man, who was found nearby with the woman’s belongings.
Police arrested the man, who does not have a local address, for investigation of second-degree theft.
Man allegedly assaults woman
A 37-year-old man was charged Saturday with assaulting his girlfriend while she was driving with two children in the vehicle in Nanakuli. Police said Herman Kelii III was sitting in the front passenger seat when he punched the 35-year-old woman in the face at about 9:50 p.m. Thursday.
A 9-year-old boy and a 7-month-old girl were also in the vehicle, boosting the offense to a class C felony for abuse in front of a child under the age of 14, police said. Kelii’s bail was set at $50,000.
Liliha man arrested in robbery case
Police arrested a 20-year-old Liliha man Sunday after he allegedly punched a woman in the face and took her belongings in Kalihi.
Police said the man took the 20-year-old woman’s property at about 2:30 a.m. after she fell to the ground from the punch.
Security officers called police, who found the man near Akepo Lane and arrested him for investigation of second-degree robbery.
