Cole Kreuter hit a two-out infield single to score Ryan Cooper with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning and UC Irvine completed a three-game sweep of Hawaii with a 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Anteater Ballpark in Irvine, Calif.

The Anteaters (14-10, 3-0) have won eight in a row and all nine meetings against Hawaii (9-19, 0-3) since the Rainbow Warriors joined the conference in 2013. 

UH has lost 20 of its last 24 league games.

Alex Sawelson went 3-for-4 with a two-run double in the first inning that gave Hawaii its first lead of the series.

The Anteaters erased it immediately with three runs in the bottom of the first. Keston Hiura hit a two-run single and Cameron Bishop hit an RBI groundout off Hawaii starter Jarrett Arakawa.

Two of three runs were unearned as Stephen Ventimilia threw away a potential double-play ball.

Ventimilia was also credited with an error to lead off the eighth inning that turned into the game-winning run.

Marcus Doi drew three walks and scored twice, tying the game on a two-out RBI single by Eric Ramirez in the top of the eighth inning.

Chayce Ka’aua drew a walk to lead off the ninth and was bunted to second with one out. Backup catcher Steven Pollakov pinch hit for Ventimilia and grounded out to first. Alan Baldwin then grounded out to end it.

UCI starter Evan Manarino allowed three earned runs on five htis in 7 2/3 innings with three walks and three strikeouts. 

Arakawa threw 79 pitches in five innings allowing five hits and three runs (one earned) with three walks and three strikeouts. His ERA is now 1.06 in 17 innings.

Matt Valencia (0-1) allowed two hits and walked one with two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings but was credited with giving up an unearned run and took the loss. 

Hawaii returns home to host a four-game series against UC Davis starting Thursday. Only the first three games will count toward league play.
