Taylor and Lilly to speak at QB Club
University of Hawaii men’s basketball coach Benjy Taylor and attorney and author Michael Lilly and will speak at the Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon on Monday.
Taylor led the Rainbow Warriors to a 22-13 record, including an upset of top-seeded UC Davis in the Big West Conference tournament.
Lilly is an attorney licensed in both Hawaii and California, specializing in commercial, wrongful termination and personal injury litigation. He will also discuss "Nimitz at Ease," the story of how his grandparents helped in relieving of Admiral Chester W. Nimitz’s stress during the war years.
The $15 luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program starts at noon.
Ho the runner-up in New Zealand
Australia’s Keely Andrew defeated Hawaii’s Coco Ho to win the World Surf League Port Taranaki Pro Women’s QS6000 at Fitzroy Beach New Plymouth in Taranaki New Zealand. In good onshore surf, Andrew outscored Ho 12.50 to 9.80. It’s the second runner-up finish for Ho at this event in the last three years.
Vulcans softballs win a pair at TOC
Hawaii Hilo defeated Western Oregon 11-0 and Northwest Nazarene 6-5 and finished 4-1 in pool play at the Tournament of Champions on Saturday in Turlock, Calif.
The Vulcans were buoyed by an Amanda Lara grand slam and Vanessa Salinas’ three-run homer.
» In the same tourney, Hawaii Pacific defeated San Francisco State 7-4 and fell to Humboldt State 2-0. Keila Elderts drove in three runs to pace the Sharks in their victory.
Hawaii Hilo swept in baseball double dip
The Vulcans dropped both games of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader, 5-3 and 4-3, on Saturday at Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego.
Byron Freitas had two of Hilo’s six hits in the first tilt, while Korin Medeiros drove in two in the night cap.

Bronson Aiwohi compiled four hits and three RBIs over both games to pace the Sharks at the plate.
Cal State L.A. blanks Vulcans in tennis
No. 22 Cal State Los Angeles won all nine matches (six singles, three doubles) en route to the 9-0 win against Hawaii Hilo (2-17) on Saturday in Los Angeles.
