The Kauai County Department of Parks and Recreation is asking the public to help stop vandalism at the comfort station located next to the skate park in Kapaa and other county facilities.

Since the start of the year, the comfort station at the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex in Kapaa has been vandalized several times a week.

On Friday, the most recent incident, an individual or individuals destroyed a toilet in the women’s restroom and a urinal in the men’s restroom. Two sinks located on the building’s exterior was also damaged, according to a county news release.

The interior walls also have been defaced with graffiti.

Parks and Recreation Director Lenny Rapozo estimated repair costs for the restroom at $1,500 per month since January. “We are all impacted by the vandalism,” said Rapozo in the news release. “The replacement costs and manpower requirements are borne by the taxpayers. In addition, the time spent on repairs means time taken away from other parks.”

Anyone who observes suspicious activity at the Kapaa restroom or other facilities is urged to call police dispatch at 241-1711.
