Vulcans softball team wins a pair
Hawaii Hilo defeated Simon Fraser University 10-2 and Holy Names University 8-1 to go 2-0 on day one of the Tournament of Champions hosted by Cal State Stanislaus on Friday in Turlock, Calif.
Aubrey Colleen’s two-run double in the second inning and Vanessa Salinas’ complete-game victory highlighted the win over Simon Fraser (11-14). Melanie Morelos drove in two runs as the Vulcans (18-13) beat Holy Names (4-31).
Hawaii Hilo continues the tournament on Saturday with three games.
» Chaminade dropped three games on day one. Chaminade fell to Humboldt State 5-3, was shut out by UC San Diego 8-0 and lost 2-1 to San Francisco State. The Silverswords (7-26) will continue the tournament on Saturday with a pair of games.
» Hawaii Pacific went 1-2 in day one as the Sharks defeated Saint Martin’s 5-3, lost 4-3 to UC San Diego and 8-5 to California State East Bay. HPU (16-13) resumes tournament action on Saturday with two games.
Hawaii Hilo baseball loses a pair
The Vulcans lost a doubleheader on Friday in San Diego, Calif., falling at Point Loma Nazarene University 4-1 and 4-3.
Over the two games, Samuel Kim hit a solo home run in the first game. Game two had the Vulcans score three runs in the top of the first inning, but gave up three unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Vulcans (6-17, 4-14 Pacific West Conference) finish up the four-game series with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 9 a.m.
