Beeman says she’s staying at UH
University of Hawaii women’s basketball coach Laura Beeman is remaining with the Rainbow Wahine for the foreseeable future, she told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser on Thursday morning.
Beeman was one of three finalists for the vacant Utah job. She called a Utah athletic departmental official Thursday to ask that she be taken out of consideration for the position.
"I’m staying," Beeman said. "The reason is I like what (new athletic director) David Matlin is doing. I’m not driven by money."
The fourth-year Rainbow Wahine coach received a contract extension in December at UH that takes her through 2017 at roughly $160,000 a season.
UH won the Big West regular-season championship in 2015 and finished with a 23-9 overall record, including a 15-game winning streak. The Wahine played in the WNIT all three of her UH seasons.
