Calip beats Oda for OCC crown
Nainoa Calip fired a 4-under-par 67 to beat John Oda by two strokes in the final round of the Oahu Country Club Men’s Invitational on Saturday.
Calip, who also won the Manoa Cup this summer, birdied the fourth hole (they started on No. 10) while Oda bogeyed it to provide the telling swing. Calip finished with a 204 over the three days, while Oda took 206 swings.
P.J. Samiere took third with a 209 and Spencer Dunaway was fourth at 210.
Tie atop Mixed Team Championship
Rose Huang and Matthew Shen finished with a score of 66 to match Annika Espino and Justin Williamson’s 6-under lead at the HSJGA Mixed Team Championship at Poipu Bay Golf Course on Saturday.
The Mixed Team Championship consists of one boy and one girl from the 13-18 age division. The final round will begin at 7 a.m. on Sunday.
14U Hekili rallies to beat Westfield
Justin Fernandez’s line drive to left field brought in Francis Gora for the go-ahead run as Hekili beat Westfield (Ma.) 5-4 in eight innings at the Babe Ruth 14U World Series in Ocala, Fla., on Saturday.
Hekili continues pool play against Lawrenceburg, Tenn. on Sunday at 11 a.m. Hawaii time.
