La Pietra — Hawaii School for Girls will mark its 50th anniversary with a Sunset Jazz gala Sept. 14 on the Great Lawn on the slopes of Diamond Head. The campus’ entertainment beacon, singer and teacher Shari Lynn has assembled some first-rate talent — Jimmy Borges, PBS Big Band, Piranha Brothers — for an evening of song and supper on the historic site.
Doors open at 5 p.m., with the concert at 5:30 p.m.

La Pietra is the former Dillingham estate, inspired by a villa in Tuscany. La Pietra founders Lorraine Day Cooke and Barbara Cox Anthony raised sufficient funds to buy the estate in 1969 to relocate the Hawaii School for Girls. …
WHEE, THE PEOPLE: "Hawaii Five-0" has landed Frankie Valli as a guest on the eighth episode of the CBS procedural’s fifth season.Valli will play Leonard Campbell, a suitor and possible groom for Aunt Deb (Carol Burnett, in a returning appearance as the aunt of Steve McGarrett, played by Alex O’Loughlin).McG may put a damper on their planned matrimony when he discovers some suspicious behavior in her beau’s past, so tune in. Fans think Valli, the leader of the Four Seasons, should sing, since Burnett chirped in her first guest role as Deb. And heck, he’s got incredible creds from his pop past.

And local boy actor Anthony Ruivivar returned to Honolulu a week or so ago for his third episode of "Five-0."This time, he brought his family, including kids Kai, Levi and Kale, and the clan spent an afternoon at the Disney Aulani Resort for fun in the sun and pool as VIP guests of resort manager Kimberly Agas. The youngsters didn’t want to leave, but the family had to catch a flight to L.A. Anthony and wife Yvonne are excited about daughter Levi, a gymnastics whiz, who received an invite to visit the Olympic team’s training facility in Texas. Another Ruivivar star in the making? …
NAMES ‘N’ PLACES: Local girl Maggie Q will co-star in the "Stalker" drama premiering Oct. 1, playing alongside Dylan McDermott. They portray L.A. detectives investigating stalker incidents that run the gamut from cyber harassment to voyeurism. It’s Kevin Williamson‘snew CBS drama, also featuring Victor Rasuk,Mariana Klaveno and Elizabeth Rohm. …
Update on the memorial services for Kay Ahearn, longtime Kahala Hilton publicist who died Aug. 5 at age 80: She is survived by her brother Thomas Ahearn and sister-in-law Nan of East Dennis, Mass. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Star of the Sea, with pianist Kit Samson providing music, followed by services from 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hawaiian Humane Society — one of her final requests. …

The POTUS, however, didn’t earn a trophy; it went to Galifianakis and his co-producers. …
