Building renovation blamed for Chinatown fire
Fire investigators believe renovation work on an unoccupied two-story Chinatown building on North King Street sparked a fire Monday night causing an estimated $15,000 in damage.
The fire was reported at 6:01 p.m. at 118 North King St., once the location of Eastern Food Center, which closed at the end of February.
When firefighters arrived at 6:06 p.m. smoke was emanating from the roof. The fire was brought under control at 6:24 p.m. and extinguished by 6:41 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
Ten fire companies with 39 firefightersl responded to the alarm.
Police closed North King Street while firefighters extinguished the blaze.
