Wayward float prompts search for diver
The Coast Guard is searching for a possible missing diver off Maui after a 45-foot response boat discovered a dive float adrift at 6:45 p.m. Thursday while conducting routine training in Maalaea Bay. The float’s flag is red and white with an orange and yellow line attached to a broken clasp.
The Coast Guard is asking mariners to watch for anyone possibly in distress. Anyone with information that may help identify the owner of the float is asked to contact the Sector Honolulu Command Center at 842-2600.
Suspect sought in armed robbery of Zippy’s
Honolulu police are looking for a suspect in an armed robbery of the Zippy’s restaurant on Kapahulu Avenue Thursday morning.
Police said the robbery happened at about 5 a.m. Officers remained on scene for several hours after the incident and yellow police tape blocked the entrance to the restaurant during what would normally be a busy breakfast period.
No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.
Woman accused of triggering taxi accident
A 42-year-old homeless woman is under investigation for allegedly causing a taxicab driver to lose control of his car, resulting in a traffic accident in Makiki.
The suspect fled the scene, but later returned to Young Street where the incident occurred at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Police arrested her on suspicion of interfering with a public transit vehicle.
Reported sex assault is under investigation
Police and corrections officials were investigating a report that a Halawa Correctional Facility inmate sexually assaulted another inmate.
The incident occurred on Aug. 21 at the Halawa facility, which houses males inmates, according to police and corrections officials. The police report said the suspect is 26 years old and the alleged victim is 43. The case has been classified as second-degree sexual assault.
The suspect has not been arrested.
