Streets of Honolulu can be confusing
File this under "it’s going to get worse before it gets better."
Confusion over striping of lanes is confounding drivers along stretches of Hawaii Kai Drive as well as on Waialae Avenue between 6th and 11th avenues, as reported in Friday’s Kokua Line (see http://bit.ly/1ncGR68).
Between temporary striping and addition of new bus and bike lanes, it’ll be another four to six weeks before permanent striping and more order, hopefully, prevail.
Meanwhile, be careful out there: drive defensively and stay alert.
They’re livin’ it up at the Hotel Lanai
So now if visitors want to stay overnight on the erstwhile "Pineapple Island" of Lanai, they’re going to be doing business with billionaire Larry Ellison.
The Oracle Corp. CEO now owns most of the island and every hotel room there, after the acquisition of historic Hotel Lanai, with its 10 rooms and little restaurant.
Built 91 years ago as a retreat for Dole Pineapple executives, the inn at the center of tiny Lanai City now seems humble and quaint in comparison to the luxe-type Four Seasons resorts, Manele Bay and The Lodge at Koele.
We’re all waiting to see what the new owner plans to do with it. Let’s hope it stays more or less as it is. And maybe at least those 10 rooms can be more affordably priced than the Four Seasons?
