Apology note left for sex assault victim leads to arrest
PORTLAND, Ore. >> Authorities say an apology note with a phone number left outside the door of an Oregon sexual assault victim has led to a man’s arrest.
The Oregonian reports that police in the Portland suburb of Beaverton say the woman reported she was assaulted Aug. 15 by a man who entered her apartment through an unlocked sliding door. The woman says she didn’t know the man.
Police say the woman told them she found the apology note with a phone number on Monday and gave it to officers. According to court records, the author had written, “I hope you don’t hate me” and had encouraged the woman to call if she wanted “and send me to jail please.”
On Wednesday, Beaverton police arrested 33-year-old Cruz Bonilla in nearby Hillsboro. He was booked for investigation of first-degree sex abuse, first-degree sodomy and first-degree burglary.
