Public Links entry deadline nears
Thursday is the deadline to enter the Aloha Hawaii Public Links Championship, a celebration of Hawaii’s success in the USGA national event that ended in 2014 after 89 years.
The 18-hole “Stroke Play Challenge” will be Feb. 27 at Mililani, beginning at 11:30 a.m. A banquet follows at 6 p.m. at the Manoa Grand Ball Room (2454 South Beretania St.) in the Japanese Cultural Center.
The event is open to all past Public Links qualifiers, supporters, volunteers and friends of Hawaii Public Links.
Entry fee is $120, including the banquet. Golf only is $50 and banquet guests are $70. Entry forms are available on the Aloha Section PGA (ASPGA.com) and HSGA (hawaiistategolf.org) websites.

New division for state amateur
A mid-amateur division for golfers 25 and older will be added to this year’s Hawaii State Amateur Stroke Play Championship, March 12-15 at Pearl Country Club.
Kyle Suppa won last year’s open title and Raymond Tendo was the senior (55-older) champion.
The field is limited to the first 72 in the Open Division and first 24 in seniors and Mid-Am.

Dunes at Maui Lani hosts qualifiers
Dunes at Maui Lani, Hualalai, Kapolei and Puakea will be the site of Hawaii’s local and sub-regional qualifiers for the third annual Drive, Chip and Putt Championship.
The free nationwide youth golf development initiative is open to boys and girls between the ages of 7-15. Top qualifiers advance to sub-regional and regional qualifiers this summer, with the top 80 going to national finals at Augusta National at next year’s Masters.
Puakea hosts the first local qualifier in Hawaii on May 23, with a sub-regional scheduled July 18. Maui is next on May 30, with a sub-regional July 18. Hualalai’s date is June 20 (July 18 sub-regional) and Kapolei will be July 11, with the sub-regional one week later.
