Iselle expected to become hurricane as it nears Central Pacific
Tropical Storm Iselle has formed in the Eastern Pacific and is forecast to become a hurricane by Saturday.
The storm is still too far away from Hawaii to predict if it will affect the weather here.
At 5 p.m. Thursday, Iselle was about 1,135 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico. The storm is moving west-northwest at 12 mph with sustained winds of 45 mph.
Tropical storm force winds extend up to 70 miles from the center.
Forecasters expect the storm grow into a hurricane by the weekend, then weaken as it enters the Central Pacific Tuesday.
