Fire destroys Kauai house, displaces 7 residents
A Kauai family of seven was displaced Wednesday morning after a fire destroyed their Kekaha house.
No one was at home when the fire broke out shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the four-bedroom house on Akikiki Place, the Kauai Fire Department said in a news release.
Fire inspectors determined the blaze caused an estimated $270,000 in damage, and the house was considered a total loss. The cause remained under investigation Wednesday afternoon.
The fire appears to have originated in a back bedroom, the Fire Department said.
American Red Cross and the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands are assisting the family.
