Flood advisory extended for Maui
A flood advisory for Maui was extended Saturday afternoon after radar showed heavy rains off Kahului.
The area of heavy rain — 15 miles east of Kahului — was nearly stationary, weather officials said. The flood advisory is posted through 5:30 p.m.
Earlier flood advisories for Molokai and Oahu expired at 9 a.m. and noon, respectively.
Heavy downpours with a slight chance for thunderstorms are expected across the eastern half of the state, the National Weather Service reported.
A wet and breezy trade wind pattern will spread across the state late Saturday and into Sunday, but enhanced moisture and instability will remain near the Big Island and Maui into the middle of next week.
A winter weather advisory for snowfall has been issued for Big Island summits until 6 a.m. Monday due to the depth of the clouds expected to stream over the island.
