A blizzard warning is in effect for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa and cloudy skies could bring some showers to lower elevations Wednesday.

The cloudy skies kept temperatures from getting into record levels Wednesday.

Except for Kahului Airport, overnight lows were in the 60s rather than the 50s.

An overnight low of 59 in Honolulu Tuesday set a record at the airport and Lihue’s 57 degree temperature tied a record on Kauai.

The moisture coming up from the south will bring cloudy skies and rain to Hawaii and Maui counties and scattered light showers to Oahu and Kauai. Winds will be variable to 15 mph.

Cooler north winds are expected to return Thursday, bringing one more night of cool weather.

Northeast tradewinds will pick up over the weekend to 15 to 20 mph.

Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa could see 5 to 8 inches of new snow above 11,500 feet through Thursday.

A blizzard warning continues for the summits though 6 p.m. Thursday because of the snow, ice, freezing fog and winds of 45 to 65 mph with gusts over 85 mph.

The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for cloudy skies highs between 71 and 80 degrees and a 30 to 40 percent chance of scattered showers in the afternoon and evening.

Overnight lows are expected to be between 58 and 64 degrees.

The clouds should clear Thursday, but north winds will keep the high temperatures in the 70s and lows could dip back down to the 50s and low-60s Thursday night.

The return of the tradewinds Friday should bring slightly warmer weather over the weekend.
