Hawaii tops Long Beach State in men’s volleyball
Senior middle Taylor Averill put down a match-high 14 kills to lead No. 6 Hawaii past No. 10 Long Beach State 25-22, 24-26, 25-14, 25-22 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match Friday night in Long Beach, Calif.
Averill was in on nine blocks with three aces and junior libero Kolby Kanetake had a match-high 10 digs for the Warriors (12-4, 9-2), who have won five straight. The win moves Hawaii into a tie with Pepperdine, a half-game behind league leaders UCI and BYU.
Dan Glamack had 13 kills and John La Rusch 10 for the 49ers (8-7, 5-7).
The teams meet again Saturday at The Walter Pyramid.
