Convict on furlough captured
Police on Monday caught a man who escaped from the Laumaka Work Furlough Center.
Jared Denault, 36, was arrested at 1:23 p.m. on Ward Avenue near Queen Street. He was reported missing doing a regular security check at 1:25 a.m. Monday.
Denault was finishing a sentence for firearm violations and had a parole hearing scheduled for September.
Still missing is Eric Pixley, 49, who was reported missing at a 1:30 a.m. head count Saturday. Pixley was serving time for a probation violation. He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes, weighing 170 pounds.
Man who died at beach is ID’d
The Maui police have identified a 59-year-old Kahului man who died Sunday at a beach in Kihei as Stephen King.
Police said King was found floating face down at 4:16 p.m. about 5 yards off Kamaole Beach Park.
Police said King was pulled from the water, and first responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation but were unable to revive him.
Woman held in man’s stabbing
A 44-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault in a Kaimuki stabbing Sunday afternoon.
Emergency Medical Services said a 50-year-old man was taken to the hospital in stable condition just after 4 p.m. from an address on 4th Avenue. Paramedics reported that the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.
