Hawaii breaks out against No. 16 Oregon in big way
Hawaii tagged Oregon starter Trent Paddon for seven runs in an inning of work and third baseman Alex Sawelson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to help Hawaii snap a 13-game losing skid against No. 16 Oregon with a 10-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.
Eric Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and Jordan Richartz was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Hawaii (1-2), which hadn’t beaten a George Horton-coached Ducks team by more than three runs in 23 previous meetings.
L.J. Brewster (1-0) picked up the win in his first collegiate start, allowing one run on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
UH sent nine batters to the plate in each of the first two innings to take an 8-0 lead off three different Oregon pitchers.
Sawelson, Ramirez and Richartz did most of the damage, combing to go 6-for-6 with seven RBIs in the first two innings.
Chayce Ka’aua added a two-run double in the sixth to make it 10-1. Oregon gave up 10 runs only once all of last season.
