Strong earthquake off coast of Panama poses no tsunami threat

A 6:40 p.m. temblor hit 195 miles south of Punta de Burica, Panama at a depth of 6.2 miles on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A preliminary magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck off the southern coast of Panama Wednesday, but does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The 6:40 p.m. temblor hit 195 miles south of Punta de Burica, Panama at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

No tsunami advisory was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

No injuries were immediately reported.
