Honolulu inflation up 1.4 percent in 2014
Honolulu inflation was mild in 2014, rising just 1.4 percent, and finished below the U.S. rate for the first time in 13 years, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The U.S. consumer price index was up 1.6 percent last year.
Increases in electricity (2.6 percent), food (2.2 percent) and shelter (1.2 percent) were partially offset by a 6.6 percent drop in apparel prices and a 2.3 percent decline in gas prices.
Consumer prices in Honolulu rose 1.8 percent during the second half of 2014 compared with the same period a year ago. The index was up 1.3 percent during the final six months last year versus the first half of the year.
