For the past year, motorists on Kapa­hulu Avenue may have noticed Lillian Miyaki coming and going from Anchor House Antiques. Some have even stopped, hoping for a peek inside the store that’s been shuttered for a decade.

"They’re curious because they’ve never seen it open," said Miyaki, niece of owner Harry Miura, a longtime collector who opened the store in 1968.

The last sale recorded was in 2005, before Miura endured two strokes and a fall that resulted in broken vertebrae. Now, about to turn 86 next month and suffering from dementia, Miura is in a care home, and his family has decided to liquidate the contents of the store over the next three days.

The sale will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. All items except fixtures will be priced at $25 each on Friday, with prices dropping to $15 on Saturday and $5 on Sunday.

Up for grabs will be small household items including figurines, paintings, vintage cameras and radios, porcelain, chandeliers, lamps, telephones, clocks, pottery, dolls, tube radios, books, records, scrolls and more.

The contents of Miura’s home and larger pieces were sold at auction. About 10,000 records were donated to the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i two years ago.

Miura started collecting when he was 14, and Miyaki said she always viewed him as "the eccentric uncle. No one else in the family collects."

"He drove the oldest car, a 1949 Dodge sedan. He just liked old stuff. He had a full-size cannon in his yard. It was so heavy we couldn’t move it. That sold at auction."

Because he owns the property, there was never a rush to liquidate. But a few years ago Miura asked Miyaki, who lives on Molo­­kai, to help. Staying on Oahu with her sister, she said it’s taken the two of them a year, working seven days a week, to get the space clear enough for people to walk through the aisles.

In the store’s heyday, Miura’s antique shop served as a prop store for set dressers from TV series including the original "Hawaii Five-0" and "Magnum, P.I."

"He has a lot of the stars’ autographs," Miyaki said.

In spite of his health problems and failing memory, Miura’s collector’s sensibility remains intact. Miyaki said that while visiting him in the care home, he pointed toward a cabinet and told her, "You see that cabinet? I want to buy it."
