A 34-year-old man allegedly stabbed the mother of his child and the woman’s two other children in the head and stomach at Kalihi Valley Homes on Monday, residents of the public housing complex said.
Brandon Lorenz was arrested at the main police station Monday afternoon for investigation of three counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of first-degree burglary. He was not yet charged as of Tuesday evening.
Police said Lorenz assaulted a 28-year-old woman, an 8-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy with a dangerous instrument at about 5:20 a.m. Monday. All were taken in serious condition to the hospital and treated in the intensive care unit, authorities said.
Kalihi Valley Homes residents said the stabbing happened at Lorenz’s girlfriend’s unit, which was listed as his home address on arrest records. Neighbors said Lorenz was regularly at the unit and identified his girlfriend as Megan Isomura.
Tagi Moana and her sister Fe Moana, who live in the same building as Isomura, said Lorenz was at the apartment Sunday. They said Isomura and Lorenz have a daughter, about 2 years old, and Isomura has two children from a previous marriage. Lorenz’s daughter was with Isomura’s mother at the time of the stabbing, they said.
Tagi Moana said the incident began when she heard Isomura tell someone to get out of her house. Soon after, Isomura and her daughter called for help.
Moana’s mother and her 12-year-old sister climbed out of a second-floor window onto a wide window ledge and walked to Isomura’s bedroom window, Moana said. They saw Isomura lying on a bed, unable to move because she had been stabbed in her legs.
Isomura asked them to check on her children, and Moana’s sister went to the second bedroom window to see Isomura’s son lying face down with a stab wound to his head, and Isomura’s daughter on her back with a stab wound to her stomach, Moana said.
"She’s a smart girl," Fe Moana said of Isomura’s daughter. "She’s protective of her brother."
Fe Moana’s sister told Isomura her children had been stabbed, and Isomura began screaming and asked for water and blankets for her children.
Fe Moana said when police arrived, her mother opened Isomura’s door by climbing through an open back window.
"My mom said there was blood all over the house," Fe Moana said.
"(My sister) said it’s sad because it’s her friends," she said. "They always come in our house and play."
Fe Moana said she never thought Lorenz would attack his family "because he’s good with the kids."
She suspected Lorenz attacked his girlfriend because she gave his daughter to her mother.
Fe Moana said she was worried about the children but couldn’t get any information from the hospital Tuesday.
"We just want to see the kids," Fe Moana said. "I keep crying, crying, and I pray for the kids to be well because they don’t deserve this."
Tagi Moana said Isomura is a nice person who often shared food with others and works at the Wendy’s near Keehi Lagoon. Isomura is also a manager at Nico’s Pier 38.
