App gives owners first aid tips for pets
The American Red Cross has launched a Pet First Aid app that provides smartphone users with instant access to step-by-step instructions, videos and photos for handling more than 25 common first-aid and emergency situations.
The topics include how to deal with pet wounds, burns, injuries from falls and car accidents, cardiac and breathing emergencies, and cold- and heat-related conditions.
Other features of the 99-cent app for iPhone and Android devices allow pet owners to create a pet profile with tag identification number, photos, a list of medications and instructions; contact their veterinarian or emergency pet-care facilities via the "animal hospital locator"; locate pet-friendly hotels; and test their knowledge with interactive quizzes.
The Red Cross app also contains resources to help owners include pets in their emergency action plans.
Download the Pet First Aid app at iTunes and Google Play stores by searching for "American Red Cross" or visit redcross.org/mobileapps.
