Heavy showers falling at 1 to 2 inches an hour have prompted weather officials to post a flood advisory for Hawaii island through 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials at the National Weather Service said radar showed heavy showers soaking mauka areas near Saddle Road Junction and Waikaloa at 2:12 p.m.

Isle resident and visitors are advised to avoid streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Motorists are cautioned that the heavy rainfall can create dangerous driving conditions due to ponding, low visibility and reduced vehicle braking.
