Fisherman fined for throw net violation
A fisherman has been fined $250 for using a throw net with mesh less than two inches in waters off Aina Haina last month.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said Virgilio Malinay was charged and sentenced in Honolulu District Court on March 5. Malinay pleaded no contest and was fined $250. The violation is a petty misdemeanor.
An officer with departnent’s division of conservation and resources enforcement saw Malinay on Feb. 5 fishing with a throw net from shore while on routine patrol, the DNLR said in a news release.
