Former Punahou athletic director Jeaney Garcia is staying in the high school athletic scene in Hawaii.
Garcia said she agreed to become the Positive Coaching Alliance’s executive director for the state of Hawaii, and will work with the HHSAA on building a PCA initiative.
"There are so many things I want to do," Garcia said. "But the very first thing is to talk to people to make sure Hawaii is the leader of sportsmanship and character in the nation."
The Positive Coaching Alliance is a national non-profit run by the athletic department at Stanford University, and has been around since 1998. Garcia was the PCA’s Los Angeles coordinator for five years before taking the job at Punahou in 2009 and one of the first things she did there was require each coach to take part in PCA workshops.
"This is not just a philosophy thing," Garcia said. "This is an organization that is very active in helping coaches win more, and PCA is part of that answer. This is something very close to my heart."
