Jenkins posts NCAA’s fastest time
Southern University sprinter Devin Jenkins posted the fastest time in the 100 meters in the entire NCAA this season, completing it in 10.21 seconds at the Texas Southern relays on Sunday.
The mark is also tied for the third-best internationally this year.
The 2012 Kapolei alumnus set a conference record in the 60 meters during the indoor season with a time of 6.66 seconds.
Zane, Teves impressive for Pacific
Pacific (Ore.) junior Michael Zane, a 2011 Punahou alumnus, ran the 100 meters in less than 11 seconds on Saturday, finishing first in the event with a time of 10.91 seconds at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open.
Zane became the first Pacific sprinter to post a time faster than 11 seconds in the event since 1976. It’s the fifth-fastest time in school history and is the 10th-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. Zane also finished first in the 200 meters on Saturday in a season-best time of 22.29 seconds and was named the Northwest Conference student-athlete of the week on Monday.
Zane’s teammate, freshman Michael Teves, a 2012 King Kekaulike alumnus, added 5 inches to his pole vault jump, finishing third in the event with a height of 14 feet, 6 inches. His mark is the second best in school history, trailing only the record of 15 feet, 6 inches, and is the seventh-best mark in NCAA Division III this season.
