A 26-year-old woman told police that her ex-husband hid in the back seat of her car in the parking lot of a Kakaako nightclub and stabbed her current boyfriend, before abducting her for 12 hours and sexually assaulting her, according to court documents.

Matthew K. Bright, 27, of Salt Lake, is charged with second-degree attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping and first-degree sexual assault. He remains in custody, unable able to post $500,000 bail.

According to a police affidavit, Bright hid in the back seat of his ex-wife’s car, which was parked at Waterfront Plaza early Sunday morning.

As the victim and Keone Moore drove from the parking lot at 4 a.m. on Sunday, Moore told police he saw Bright in the back seat of the car.

Moore said Bright began stabbing him, according to the police affidavit, and Moore got out of the car and flagged down a police officer.

An ambulance took Moore to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition with multiple stab wounds.

Police said Bright forced his ex-wife into his silver 2003 Jeep Liberty, which was parked near Waterfront Plaza.

The victim told police she made two calls — one to a girlfriend and the other to her brother.

The victim told her girlfriend: “he’s been hitting me, he’s going to kill me. I don’t know where we are.”

In a cellphone call to her brother, the victim said she wanted to talk to her parents, adding, “he’s going to hurt me if I don’t get off the phone.”

The police statement said the victim was held by the suspect until a police officer found her on Sunday at 5:33 p.m. on Maunalani Circle at the top of Wilhelmina Rise.

She told police that she tried to leave Bright at least four times, but was prevented when he allegedly choked her with his hands and forearm. The victim also said Bright sexually assaulted her in the car while holding her down by the neck, using his hands and forearm.

Just before 3 p.m. on Sunday, police released a missing persons bulletin requesting the public’s help in locating Bright and woman, saying they were last seen in the downtown area following a domestic dispute. 

An East Honolulu patrol officer spotted the silver Jeep at 5:33 p.m. in the 5000 block of Maunalani Circle and arrested Bright. 

A preliminary hearing for Bright is scheduled for Friday afternoon in District Court.
