Man charged in attempt to run over police
A 38-year-old Puna man superficially wounded after he was shot by Hawaii County police was charged Wednesday with three counts of first-degree attempted murder and other offenses, including kidnapping and assault.
Riley Asuncion initially tried to ram officers with a sport utility vehicle he had commandeered after kidnapping and assaulting a 30-year-old female acquaintance in Hilo Monday morning, police said.
After fleeing onto Stainback Highway, Asuncion allegedly drove onto a side road and straight at officers, but veered left, missing an officer by a few feet. The officer then fired three shots and one struck him, police said.
Woman allegedly kicked victim in head
A 42-year-old Salt Lake woman repeatedly kicked and punched a homeless woman who later died of her injuries, police said in a court document filed Wednesday.
Kimberly Udo, who appeared in Honolulu District Court on Wednesday on a second-degree murder charge, was walking her dog at 4:30 a.m. Monday when she got into an argument with an acquaintance, Sandra Wollaston, 46, at Adams Lane and Bishop Street.
Udo kicked Wollaston in the head as Wollaston sat on the ground, causing her to fall over, police said in an affidavit supporting Udo’s arrest. Udo allegedly continued to kick and punch Wollaston until a man intervened and pulled Udo off the other woman.
Udo fled on foot. Officers found her at Hotel Street and Fort Street Mall, where she was identified and arrested.
Wollaston died at the Queen’s Medical Center at 5:42 a.m. Monday.
